After decades of running Open Studios, Vancouver’s independent film and event production company, Ben brought his business and creative talents to the beer world. In 2014, Maple Bay Hop Farm on Vancouver Island was born, leading the way to becoming a Co-Founder and Director of Marketing at Backcountry Brewing in 2017.
With the goal of fostering a cult following for the brewery, Ben has focused his marketing efforts on creating viral content for social media. Short comedic parody videos are the go-to format, paired with the nostalgic, pop culture themed beers that Backcountry is known for. These little gems are produced in-house on a shoestring budget and have garnered Ben and his team many accolades for their efforts from the BC Beer Awards, The Growlies and the EKOS Marketing Awards. Collaboration, hard work and most importantly having fun is the recipe for success for Ben as he continues to churn out more and more content for Backcountry fans.

Isaiah Archer is a co-founder and marketing director at Whistle Buoy Brewing Company. His education background is in political science and sustainability. Before starting Whistle Buoy he was the regional retail manager of the Victoria based clothing company Sitka, as well as leading their non-profit ecological conservation society. He’s passionate about developing great teams driven towards a social/environmental purpose. He enjoys the artistic expression of brand building and using creativity and humour to communicate brand messaging

Vanessa Johnson is the digital communication and marketing manager with tartanbond, an integrated PR and communications firm. Vanessa’s core strengths include strategic digital communication and research/development of marketing strategies. Vanessa has over 15 years of working as a marketing professional with a focus on digital communications including but not limited to social media strategy development/execution and advertising campaign development. She works closely with her clients to set goals and meet objectives in relation to their overall business objectives. Her favourite beer right is anything hazy with a punch of fruit.
