North Island College (NIC)

North Island College Craft Brewing and Malting Program was launched in 2020.

Based out of Comox Valley Campus the program has produced graduates from both the Craft brewing Program and the Brewery Operations Program. Students will be designing, brewing, and packaging collaboration beers with our partner breweries. They will also get an understanding of the business side by developing a business plan and learning about the regulatory framework as a manufacturer in BC. The programs are only 3 months in length and are blended to minimise disruption to student lives and careers.

Program instructor Adam Chatburn — a British trained brewer and commerce graduate who previously taught at Simon Fraser University — says the program is designed to give the students skills in the full brewing experience, from start to finish.

“By the time our current students graduate in June, they will have the skills to start their own careers as brewers, production assistants, craft bartenders or even as business owners,” said Chatburn. “That’s great news for the brewing community.”
