Mary Sue Maloughney
Assistant Deputy Minister and General Manager, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch
Mary Sue Maloughney became the Assistant Deputy Minister and General Manager of the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch at the beginning of 2019.
Mary Sue has extensive experience working in the public service and has held many senior leadership roles within the Government of British Columbia. She was recently instrumental in helping set up the new the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions and advancing B.C.’s new mental health strategy. Previous to that, Mary Sue was the Assistant Deputy Minister for a large operational division at the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, where she was integral in leading the province through multiple wildfire seasons, including one of the worst fire seasons on record.
Mary Sue has also held various positions in the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation. During this time she led negotiations, strategic policy and consultation initiatives, and engagement with industry organizations. She also managed a variety of land, resource and governance files.
Mary Sue grew up in the Maritimes and gradually worked her way west, including working in Yellowknife for the government of the Northwest Territories as it prepared to divide into two – creating the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
